RULES AND
REGULATIONS IN EACH BOROUGH UPDATED SEPTEMBER 2011 I've contacted each of the nine municipalities in the Pascack Valley to find out what rules and regulations they have for sales at private residences. Three of the boroughs (Hillsdale, River Vale and Woodcliff Lake) require permits for sales, the rest do not. All the boroughs ask that you observe basic rules about signs: Don't put them up too far before the sale, don't put them on utility poles, don't put them in the roadway where they can obstruct traffic, and take them down right after the sale is over. Below you'll find contact information for each municipal office, as well as any rules they ask you to observe. As this information is subject to change, call your borough clerk if you have questions! EMERSON. 1 Municipal Plaza, phone 201-262-2380. No permit required. No signs on utility poles or shade trees or on public right of way. HILLSDALE. 380 Hillsdale Avenue, phone 201-666-4800. Permit required, no fee. Apply at least a week before the event. You are limited to two sales per year. Keep the signs on your own property. MONTVALE. 12 Mercedes Drive, phone 201-391-5700, extension 219. No permit required. Signs must be removed within 24 hours of sale or a fine will be assessed. OLD TAPPAN. 227 Old Tappan Road, phone 201-664-1849. No permit required. No signs on trees or utility poles. PARK RIDGE. 55 Park Avenue, phone 201-573-1800. No permit required. No signs on utility poles or borough trees. RIVER VALE. 406 Rivervale Road, phone 201-664-2346. Requires permit, no fee. Apply at least a couple of days before event. Limit two sales per year. No sale can be for more than two days in succession. Sales can't start before 9 am and must end by 6 pm. Signs must be on your own property and cannot exceed 2 feet x 2 feet in size. Signs cannot be posted more than one week before event. WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP. 350 Hudson Avenue, phone 201-664-4425. No permit required. Keep signs on your own property. Sales at a residence cannot be too frequent. WESTWOOD. 101 Washington Avenue, phone 201-664-7100, extension 100. No permit required. WOODCLIFF LAKE. 188 Pascack Road, phone 201-391-4977. Permit required, cost $1.00. Apply at least one week before event.
